Teaching your kids to surf is a process; be patient and watch them grow!
The Talk
You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15
Your Walk
Your children don’t just happen to grow up to be awesome. You have to teach them to be that way. It’s a process that begins when they are tiny and it’s painstakingly slow.
I was reminded of this as I observed some surfers recently. My husband and I often like to get away to the beach for the weekend and on one of our excursions to the east coach of Florida, we were observing some surfers attempting to ride the waves. The surfers in this first video had it down. They could stand up and handle the waves pretty well.
But I guarantee you that’s not how they started. They probably started by playing in the waves as little kids, and eventually worked their way up to a skim board, like the kid below.
Like so many things, learning to surf is a process. As your kids learn new things, they start simple or small and eventually they are blowing you away with their commitment, their compassion, and their understanding.
But in order to get where they want to be, they must go through the process.
So many people don’t like the process of things. They want it now. They are in a hurry to get to the finish line.
Parents, your kids are in process…and they will be for years and years. Someday they will be surfing the waves all by themselves, but for now, enjoy their happiness as they play in the waves or skim the shore.
Are you enjoying the process, patient with it? Or are you anxious for the result?
