Raising children to grow up strong in their faith has never been more of a challenge. In a world that daily grows more hostile to God’s Truth, Christian parents are constantly looking for ways to be sure that their kids grow up with their biblical values.
Perhaps you read every parenting book you can get your hands on, or follow parenting gurus on Facebook or read their blogs. Maybe you attend every parenting class you can find or join support groups for parents. You may be sure that your child goes to kids’ church or youth groups, even if you don’t go to church yourself.
Your motives may be pure, but these actions will not get to the heart of the matter–your child’s heart, that is.
What’s the best way for your kids to grow up strong in their Christian faith?
They must see you living it!
My dad understood this and that’s why all six of his kids are walking with God today.
His favorite verse was:
I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth. 3 John 4.
I thought it was a nice verse, but the full impact of it is just now hitting me. Our children are in their 20s and all three are seeking to honor and obey God. They are passionate about loving and serving Him, and watching them dedicate their lives to this is the greatest reward I could ever ask for.
But in order for my dad to see that his kids were talking in truth, he had to be walking in it himself. That is a very hard reality that my husband and I are still learning.
Don’t expect your kids to grow up following God if you aren’t.
Don’t expect your kids to be honest and strong and pure if you aren’t.
Don’t expect your kids to have compassionate hearts if you don’t.
If you want your children to walk in truth, then lead the way.
If that is your desire, then you’ve come to the right place.
My only reason for starting “Walk the Talk” is to share with you how you can lead the way as you seek to teach your kids how to walk in truth.
